Property taxes are a significant source of revenue for our county, and they must be assessed fairly and equitably. I am dedicated to ensuring that every property owner is treated fairly and pays their fair share. This means implementing policies and practices that guarantee assessments are based on actual market value, considering any hardships in the real estate market, and providing clear avenues for appeals. Our residents deserve to have confidence that their assessments are not only accurate but also just.
A key component of a well-functioning Assessor’s office is transparency. I am committed to ensuring that our office is open and accessible to all residents. We will strive for greater transparency by publishing assessment methodologies, valuation criteria, and important data, such as assessment ratios and property classifications.

I believe in the power of community involvement and collaboration. An informed community is an empowered community. As Assessor of Property, I will actively seek input and feedback from our residents, local business owners and community organizations. I want to hear your concerns, your ideas, about improving the Assessor’s office.
It is my firm belief that property valuation should be conducted without bias or favoritism. I am dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards in our office, ensuring that assessments are made solely based on market value and not influenced by personal or political considerations.

Finally, our Assessor’s office must be self-sufficient, not dependent on the Department of Property Assessments to create our values and run our reappraisal programs. Recently Jason Mumpower, Comptroller of the Treasury identified Wilson County as one of several counties losing tax revenue due to our reappraisal cycle and vibrant real estate market. Recently, legislation has been introduced to change reappraisal cycles to once every four years or less. This will require our Assessor and staff to completely develop their own values, which the staff is currently unable to do.
